UOB preferred platinum visa
First Look:
This is possibly my favorite card. It gives you lots of reward points when making purchase with PayWave - their new contactless paying method, which includes all major grocery stores, many cafes and restaurants, internet shopping, movie tickets and so many more. I realized that this is also the card which I use most of the time, and it is a Visa card, so expect most merchants will be able to swipe this card. I must say that this is one of the most visually appealing card out there also, just saying. Where to use this card: Any places that using Visa-Paywave. ALL Major grocery stores accept payment using PayWaves, also Watson and Guardians, and many eatery places including Ding Tai Fung which surprisingly doesn’t accept Amex. This card can also be used for online shopping such as to shop for clothes, shoes, bags, departmental stores, books, cinemas, entertainment, electronics, fast food, music, apps. BUT remember NOT to use this card for travel related expenses, this card isn’t meant for that and will get very little points. Airmiles / Points: Note: UNI$1 = 2 Airmiles in their system 4 Airmiles per S$1 Spent. Actually you get UNI$10 (20 Airmiles) for every S$5 spent using PayWave and most of the online shopping mentioned earlier globally. But only 0.8 Airmiles per S$1 spent elsewhere (UNI$2 (4 Airmiles) for every S$5 spent) Take note that you only get reward points for transactions made at the multiples of S$5. So if you spend S$24.90 on grocery, you only get reward points based on S$20, because their system only take the multiples of S$5, but afraid not, simply find something like candy or mint top it up to a multiple of S$5, in this case, just write off S$25 on the receipt. Main or Secondary Cards: This card is pretty versatile, but you will still need to have a generic backup card for anything that doesn’t belong to the above mentioned categories and not able to use Paywave paying method, otherwise the points you get will be quite little. Possible Combo: Since this is a industry specific card, although it covers many area, it is still good to have an all-rounded card to back this up. Any 2 of my recommended Air-Miles card will do. (Clicking the images will bring you to my reviews for them. These are not ads) Final View:
This is a great side card to have especially if you do lots of groceries and online shopping. The categories are pretty wide so it’s a pretty good card to have in your wallet. And it is an UOB card, expect to be bombarded with lots of great promotions. |
