UOB Preferred platinum card account - American express
First Look:
This is a really good card to have if you spend most of your expenses on Restaurants, Bars, Cafes & Eateries globally. This is an American Express card though, so watch out for some possible occasional where the merchants not able to swipe this card. Another minor problem is it gives you little points when not making payment for shopping but still not too bad actually. All these can be excused if you have a backup card. I do not think there is any other similar card in the market at the moment for the F&B Industry. Where to use this card: Any Restaurants, Bars, Cafes & Eateries that accept Amex. Most Fine Dining generally accept Amex. Airmiles / Points: Note: UNI$1 = 2 Airmiles in their system UNI$10 (20 Airmiles) for every S$5 spent in Restaurants, Bars, Cafes & Eateries that accept Amex globally. Which equates to 4 airmiles per S$1 spent UNI$2 (4 Airmiles) for every S$5 spent anything and anywhere else. Which equates to 0.8 airmiles per S$1 spent Take note that you only get reward points for transactions made at the multiples of S$5. So if you spend S$24.90 on dining, you only get reward points based on S$20, because their system only take the multiples of S$5, but afraid not, simply tip and top up to a multiple of S$5, in this case, just write off S$25 on the receipt. Main or Secondary Cards: As this card is an industry specific card, you will need to have a generic backup card, otherwise the points you get will be quite little. Possible Combo: Take note that this is an American Express card. You will need to have a Visa or Mastercard to back you up. An all-rounded ANZ Air-Mile Card will do the best job here. (Clicking the images will bring you to my reviews for them. These are not ads) Final View:
This is a great side card to have especially if you do lots of fine dining and go to bar a lot. These places generally accept Amex so you should have no problem. The F&B industry is rather huge so this card will come in handy, and the points you get for other payments aren’t too bad neither. And it is an UOB card, expect to be bombarded with lots of great promotions. |
